Frequently Asked Questions
How long is the show?
A typical show is between 15 - 30 minutes. Basma may use finger cymbals, canes, veils or Isis Wings. When appropriate, the show may include audience participation, for example, the guest of honor may be asked to bellydance!
Is it appropriate for children?
Yes, the bellydance show is family friendly. Children often love to bellydance. Although some bellydance movements may be described as sensual, they are NEVER intended to be sexual or seductive. Bellydance IS NOT stripping. No bachelor party inquires please.
Will she bring music?
Basma provides a CD customized to fit your specific event and the venue should provide the sound system (louder is better). Usually the dancer will stay out of sight until the CD has begun playing. Live Arabic musicians can be arranged upon request.
What kind of music is used?
Basma has thousands of bellydance songs to customize for your event. Depending on your preference, the playlist can include Classic Egyptian and Turkish standards, modern Arabic pop, Middle Eastern-influenced electronica and fusion remixes.
Is tipping appropriate?
Yes. Unless the host has requested otherwise, the dancer will gladly accept tips. Tips may be thrown above her head as a "money shower".
What if I need more than one belly dancer?
Ask about booking Zivah Saphirah Middle Eastern Dance Troupe. The dancers can either do separate solos performances or dance together.
How far in advance should I make the booking?
It is always better to book the show sooner than later. If you are flexible about the time that the show begins, last minute shows can often be worked in.
What about out of town and international shows?
Basma lives in the Birmingham area but would love to travel to your event! Shows outside of Central Alabama will need to be booked at least 4 weeks in advance and travel expenses will be included in the fee.
